Diary of events Wednesday 18 December

Wednesday 18th December 6am flight from standsted first flight we could get for under a grand after looking on Tuesday all day

So we arrived at 11:00 ish to Poland.

It was fine the embassy have been great and arranged a car for us to get to the embassy 30 mile away.

12:00 spoke with Vice President at embassy.

13:00 police station

Identify Steven officially at 13:30 ( this is an interesting time to note as the polish media published his name at 9am that day) future tellers…..

15:30 hospital to see Steven. As usual he is tied up with other things … Ok that’s unfair…

He was strapped to a bed unconscious with tubes and ventilators etc.

3 stab wounds to the stomach area damaging his liver, intestine, bowl, abdomen and few other bits….. I’m sure they are important but I don’t recall.

He had 2 operations very serious ones Sunday night Monday am.

They had hoped to remove his off life support on Tuesday day but at this time it was clear his was very poorly.

17:00 they mentioned insurance but we know very little of this although I know he has a EHIC CARD.

We spoke with the doctor about it a little more and was told the have taken him off the opiates (spelt wrong I’m sure) and he may wake in next few days.

His heart rate was around 120 bpm but bp was ok.

I’ll post a pic later.., sorry Steven but you didn’t say I couldn’t….

We had a few concerns about the process at this stage because it became clear now they knew his was British they needed to get paid. Last hour was all about us getting his insurance details which we explained we due not have.

Little worrying because this could cost us tens of thousands it’s a bupa style hospital and looks expensive….

I asked the worse case and they said it could cost us big money.

Mum n myself where on edge but no worries we are there to make sure Steven is safe and identified n getting better.

To be honest I thought it was a good bye exercise the journey over from what the docs had said….. But he is improving much better than anyone thought….

19:30 we went back to the hospital unfortunately no one spoke good English but a lady was great and helped what she could. She spoke much better English than my polish 2 hits into the Rosetta Stone app on the way to Poland….

Steven was a little more conscious he could not yet communicate clearly but he knew we was there this time. It was a little emotional for me n mum….

He was trying to free himself whilst nearly fully unconscious as he was strapped down to stop him hurting himself etc….

This was hard to watch….

Mum spoke to him and stood him to settle and said she was here n his heart rate increased but he settled a little and turned toward mum… Mum spoke to him for a little and asked if he understood and he looked like he nodded and tried to talk which he had not done yet. Doctors said this is good news he is coming round a little…..

I spoke to him and told him I was there and he turned to me…. (Omg deep breathes Dave)
I said we are here you are in hospital in Poland and if you understand squeeze my hand which he did n then he settled again we said our good byes n left to the hotel.
